Discover the CEO of YOU®-Develop a Winning Strategy for Your Practice Success!

In today’s competitive landscape, success in your optometry practice goes beyond having a solid Mission, Vision, and Purpose (MVP) or an exceptional team. It requires a winning strategy—the key to transforming your vision into reality. As Lee Bolman wisely said, “A vision without strategy is an illusion.” I’d take that a step further: A vision without a winning strategy is disillusion. Your strategy isn’t just about setting goals; it’s about crafting a clear and actionable pathway to achieving those goals.

Even the best ideas can falter without the right approach. It’s all about having the right idea with the right strategy. Let me share a story that highlights why this is so important.

Right Idea, Wrong Strategy: A Lesson from the Exam Room

Last week, a patient came into my office with red, irritated eyes that had been bothering her for days. As we went through her history, she shared that she had been vacationing in sunny Florida, spending lots of time on the beach. The irritation started when salt water splashed into her eyes while she wore her contact lenses. Understandable, right? But then she did something that made me cringe—she used an over-the-counter ocular decongestant four times a day for five days straight, all while still wearing her contacts.

Yes, you read that right.

At first, I was in total disbelief. What was she thinking? But then, I stepped back and considered the situation from her perspective. To her, the idea was clear: reduce the redness and discomfort. Unfortunately, her strategy was completely off. She had the right idea—she wanted to feel better—but without the correct approach, her symptoms only worsened.

As her eye care professional, it was my job to step in with the right strategy: I educated her on proper eye care, prescribed the appropriate treatment, and helped her understand why her initial approach was flawed. Within days, she felt relief.

The moral? Having a great idea is not enough; you need the right strategy to achieve the right results.

At CEO of YOU® business coaching program, we believe that every optometry practice needs a strong foundation to build upon, and that foundation is your strategy. Our model outlines five essential pillars that guide your practice toward sustained success:

  2. Administration: Managing the day-to-day operations efficiently, from scheduling to compliance, to keep your practice running smoothly.
  3. Operations: Streamlining clinical procedures, inventory, and patient care protocols for optimal practice performance.
  4. Promotions: Crafting marketing strategies to attract and retain patients, increasing your reach and reputation.
