1. Tell us a little bit about you
Hello everyone!
I am a happy working professional. I am married and have a three year old child. Being a working mom keeps me very busy. But, I am glad for all the blessings in my life and that is why I am happy everyday.
I always have a tendency to empower and train people especially those who are keen to learn.
I enjoy baking a lot. My favorite anytime desert is carrot walnut cake. YUM!!!
2. What made you decide to become an Optometrist?
As a young child, I always wanted a career that would bring great satisfaction and a good quality of life. As I grew older, I realized that Optometry was the best option for me.
Optometry is an excellent and rewarding career. In addition to providing job satisfaction and a good quality of life; it also offers different modes of practice.
In my specialty, I’m able to help people see with specialty lenses. Some of these people cannot function without these lenses. The services and products I provide to them give them a better quality of life. I feel honored to have the capacity to make such a difference in the lives of my people every day.
3. What Optometry school did you go to?
4. Where do you currently practice?
At present, I represent Resolution India which looks after Menicon account of Rose-k lenses in Northern India.
Also, I practice at two private hospitals fitting contact lens patients for the past eight years.
5. Do you offer any specialty services in your practice?
Specialty contact lens fitting for Keratoconus and Irregular corneas.
6. Name 1 to 3 hurdles you faced in your career and how did you overcome them?
Politics in optometry is a big challenge in my country. As a young Optometrists, I sometimes feel a lack of support to succeed.I think the leaders at the top of the profession should empower young optometrist, especially women. That is why I was attracted to Optometry Divas. Having an organization dedicated to empowering women optometrists is something I am so proud to be part of. I hope I can bring that same movement to my country.Another challenge is the lack of awareness among patients because of the low literacy rate.
7. If you could go back to when you were a student, what advice would you give yourself?
I would advise myself to keep calm, composed and try to be less controlling.
