Inspiration for the Week: You Are So Much More…

“The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably live with. To grow in any area of your life, including your business, you must cross the threshold of your comfort zone.” – Tony Robbins

We’re living in uncertain times. Scratch that—it’s an understatement! In my nearly 50 years on this planet, I’ve witnessed pivotal world events: from 9/11 to the global financial crisis of 2008. But nothing could have prepared us for the global upheaval brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. No one knows exactly how or when it will end, or how it will reshape our health, finances, or the very social fabric of our lives. The overwhelming uncertainty can feel like a weight on our shoulders.

But here’s what I want you to know: you are so much more than you think.

Times of fear and uncertainty have a way of revealing hidden strengths within us. And while we may not always feel like we have control over what’s happening in the world, we do have control over how we respond.

As Tony Robbins wisely pointed out, “Faith is not learned; it’s something we are born with.” Faith is our lifeline in times of fear and uncertainty, helping us push through when life seems the most overwhelming. It’s what gives us the courage to step outside our comfort zones and into the unknown.

So, how can we become more comfortable with uncertainty, especially when the world feels so unpredictable? Here are three strategies to help you embrace uncertainty and tap into your inner strength:

1. Turn Off the Noise

In times of crisis, it’s easy to get sucked into the constant stream of news and information. While staying informed is important, overloading yourself with media can heighten your stress. The 24/7 news cycle often amplifies fear and anxiety, making it harder to find peace in the moment.

Try to limit your exposure to the news, especially during vulnerable times of the day, like right before bed or first thing in the morning. By turning off the noise, you give yourself space to breathe, think clearly, and regain control over your thoughts.

2. Be Kind to Yourself

During periods of uncertainty, it’s essential to practice self-compassion. Recognize that you’re doing the best you can in difficult circumstances. Some people have a natural tolerance for unpredictability, while others struggle with it more. Either way, it’s okay.

Instead of comparing yourself to others or beating yourself up, take a moment to congratulate yourself for persevering. Give yourself permission to rest, recharge, and acknowledge that it might take time for the situation to resolve. Patience and kindness towards yourself are your best allies during uncertain times.

3. Connect with Others

One of the hardest parts of dealing with uncertainty is feeling isolated or alone in your thoughts. When we’re cut off from social connection, our ability to cope diminishes. That’s why it’s so important to reach out and stay connected with others.

Whether it’s through a phone call, a virtual meetup, or just a simple message to check in, maintaining social bonds helps you stay emotionally balanced. Sharing your thoughts and hearing others’ perspectives can also help break the cycle of anxious thinking.

Connection reminds us that we’re not in this alone—we’re all navigating uncertain waters together, and there’s strength in solidarity.

Embracing Uncertainty: The Power Within You

This pandemic may feel unprecedented, but uncertainty itself is not new. Throughout history, people have lived through wars, natural disasters, financial crises, and countless other challenges. And many times, it’s during moments of uncertainty that we discover what we’re truly capable of.

When you feel overwhelmed, remember this: You are so much more than you think. Uncertainty may challenge you, but it can also be the catalyst for growth. It’s in these moments that we find resilience, creativity, and new opportunities that we never knew existed.

So, take a deep breath. Have faith. Lean into the discomfort of the unknown, and trust that you have the strength to make it through.
