From Burnout to Brilliance: 5 Mindset Shifts That Changed My Practice (and My Life)

I didn’t realize how burned out I was until I found myself sitting in my car after work, too exhausted to move, too numb to cry. I had checked every box—successful practice, happy patients, beautiful family—but behind the scenes, I was depleted, disconnected, and silently wondering if something was wrong with me.
It wasn’t until I hit my wall that I realized burnout wasn’t just about being tired—it was about being misaligned. If you’re reading this and thinking, “That’s me,” I want you to know that it’s not your fault, and more importantly, it’s not the end of your story.

1. Stop Pretending You’re Fine

Action Step: Set aside 10 minutes today and ask yourself:
- Am I emotionally fulfilled?
- Am I physically energized?
- Do I feel aligned with the life I’m living?
If you can’t answer yes to those questions, it’s time to start listening to what your body and mind have been trying to tell you.

2. Redefine What Success Looks Like
When I first opened my practice, I chased every version of success I thought I was supposed to: full patient schedules, packed calendars, polished social media feeds. But even as I achieved more, I felt less connected to the version of myself I truly wanted to become.

Action Step: Identify your top three values—things like peace, freedom, family, or creativity. Then ask, “Does my schedule reflect these values?”

Action Step: Use this journaling prompt:
“If my best friend came to me with the same stress I’m feeling right now, what would I say to her? How would I support her?”
Then say that to yourself. Every day.
