Diva of the Week – Kiranjeet Sran, OD

Elite Member - Bridgewater, NJ

The featured Diva for this week is Dr. Kiranjeet Sran. Read the feature to discover why she says starting her own business after 6 years of practicing has been life altering.

Tell us a little bit about you

I graduated from Rutgers University New Brunswick in 2013 with a major in Economics and a minor Biology. I went to optometry school at SUNY College of Optometry, and graduated in the Class of 2017. I recently acquired a 20-year Costco sublease in Bridgewater NJ in September 2023 and began my business, Lumos Eyecare, where we offer primary care eye exams. We currently have 4 part-time doctors, 2 part time technicians, and are open 6-7 days a week.

In February 2024, we added myopia management to the practice. We offer MiSight soft contact lenses, Low Dose Atropine, and Orthokeratology with axial length monitoring.

Within optometry, my passions include creating efficient systems and workflows within the business. I also am passionate about helping and encouraging other optometrists, especially those within telehealth and corporate, to bring at least the conversation of myopia management into the exam room, as it is important to always educate patients on what is available to them. In the future, I hope to work with corporations in allowing sublease holders to have more control over myopia management products, such as selling MiSight lenses and dispensing glasses specifically designed for myopia management.

I currently living in Old Bridge NJ with husband. Along with having written song parodies in optometry school, I also have been performing as a rock singer for the optometry band Punktum Remotum at Hard Rock Cafe NYC during Vision Expo East for the Saturday night charity benefit concert since 2016.

What made you decide to become an Optometrist?

I enjoy helping people and wanted to make an impact in their lives. Vision is so important and offering the latest technology and advancements in vision care makes the work very satisfying for me. Optometry gives me the opportunity to not only help others but also dive into my creative side with owning a business.

What Optometry school did you go to?

SUNY College of Optometry

Where do you currently practice and do you offer any specialty services?

My practice is called Lumos Eyecare and it is located within Costco of Bridgewater, NJ. We offer primary care eye exams and first line myopia treatment.

Why did you join Optometry Divas?

I was referred by Dr Glenda Aleman. I am excited to be a part of like-minded women in optometry!

Name 1 to 3 hurdles you personally faced in your career and how did you overcome them?

I think the biggest hurdle was trying to figure out how Optometry could serve me as well. I knew I enjoyed helping patients, but every employed position eventually did not feel like a good fit for me. Starting the business after 6 years of practicing has been life altering, as it allows me to dictate for myself how I want to practice Optometry.

If you could go back to when you were a student, what advice would you give yourself?

I would tell myself to get more involved in the different organizations available. Networking in Optometry is so crucial. It helps that almost every doctor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from is so welcoming and sincere!

Do you have a product or side business you’d like for us to include in your feature?

I recently brought in the Topcon Myah Optical Biometer and Topographer so that we can accurately provide myopia risk assessments for my patients. It also allows us to provide better care with orthokeratology, especially in monitoring axial length in the setting of myopia management. Along with orthokeratology, we offer other treatments for myopia management in the form of soft contact lenses and low dose atropine.
