Goldman Sachs 10000 Small Business Program – Interview Tips

Congratulations on your decision to enroll in the Goldman Sachs 10000 Small Business Program!

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is designed for business owners who have a business poised for growth. They look for applicants who are passionate about growing their business, creating jobs in their communities and who generally meet these criteria:

  • Small business owner or small business co-owner Business in operation for at least two years Business revenues over $150,000 in the most recent fiscal year
  • Business with a minimum of four employees (including the owner)

Once you submit your application, if you are selected, you’ll be invited for an interview.  Here are 3 tips to help you prepare for your interview:

1. Know your numbers

Print copies of the financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet) that you submitted with your application.  Review the numbers, understand the story behind them, and be prepared to discuss them during the interview.
Also, be familiar with the Key Performance Indicators for your practice -KPIs.

2. Prepare to share a growth opportunity

This is a scaling program. They want you to create a growth opportunity. So make sure to have an idea of how you want to scale. Either it is revenue growth in your current practice or acquiring another practice.
The growth opportunity can also be venturing into a new business or industry.  You just need to show that you will use the program to create growth and jobs.

3. Relax and be yourself

This program is looking for people who have integrity and unmatched ethics. So, be yourself. Don’t make anything up. If you are not very well versed in you financials, just do the best you can and let them know that this is an area you want to grow in. Be as transparent as possible.
