Inspiration for the Week – Slow Progress is Still Progress
Slow Progress is Still Progress…
Do you sometimes feel nothing is happening even when you’re working really hard? Or, you’re investing a lot of time and effort, but not seeing the results you want? If you answered yes to either of these questions, this week’s inspiration is for you.
When you’re pursuing a goal, it’s important to remember that success is not linear. While you’re working, there are processes taking place behind the scenes that you won’t see or even be aware of. At times, it may seem nothing is happening, but that’s not true. The compounding effect of your efforts is multiplying, you just can’t see it yet.
It’s easy to judge those who appear to achieve overnight success or seem to get a lucky break. Truth is, had they not consistently work on their goal for years they would not have been in the right place to attract success. Had they given up or changed their goal, the opportunity may not have been presented to them.
There’s an image often shared on social media depicting what success entails. Called The Iceberg Illusion, it highlights the unseen factors we’re unaware of that lead to success. When you look at this image, you can see how success is really not linear because most of the process happens below the surface.
This year has been very difficult for many. Most of us experienced loss in some shape or form. These negative experiences can dampen our enthusiasm and make us lose sight of the vision. If you’re feeling discouraged because you’re struggling to reach your goals this year, you’re not alone.
If you feel your progress is so slow as if nothing is happening; I want to encourage you to keep going. Your persistence and tenacity will pay off. The individuals who appear to have succeeded overnight have been toiling away at their respective endeavors for years, if not decades.
Don’t be discouraged by the time it takes to achieve your goals or dreams. Don’t dwell on your circumstances as signs of progress since looks can be deceiving as in the case of the Chinese Bamboo Tree.
Stay the course no matter what. Because when the time is right, success will greet you, not because it was given to you, but because you pursued it long enough to claim it.
