5 Secrets For Enduring Success in Life – #2 Bet on Yourself
“If there is one thing I’m willing to bet on, it’s myself.” — Beyoncé
In last week’s article, 5 Secrets For Enduring Success in Life – #1 Be Yourself, we explored the importance of loving and accepting yourself just as you are. I reminded you that you are FLAWESOME and worthy of empowerment and love.
Today, we’re going to take that self-acceptance a step further. Now that you’ve embraced who you are, it’s time to bet on yourself!
The Power of Daily Choices
We make choices every day, in every moment. While some decisions may seem small or insignificant, they shape our future just as much as the “big life decisions.”
Whether it’s deciding to take a new job, move to a new city, start a practice, get married, or have a baby, we often focus on the big, life-altering choices. But it’s the small, everyday decisions that accumulate and determine whether we bet on ourselves or against ourselves.
When You Bet Against Yourself
You bet against yourself in those moments when:
- You say “yes” when you mean “no” (or vice versa): Ignoring your gut feeling is a surefire way to lose. That still small voice inside of you exists to guide you toward the right decisions.
- You procrastinate on self-care, like exercising: I can relate! I have friends who are up and exercising at 5:00 a.m., while I sometimes struggle just to get out of bed for a morning walk. It’s tempting to say, “I’ll start tomorrow,” but long term, that attitude only sabotages your goals.
- You delay making decisions because you want more information: Procrastination creeps in, and before you know it, the opportunity is gone. Then you beat yourself up for not acting sooner. Does this sound familiar?
Betting against yourself means playing small, and as Nelson Mandela famously said:
“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
When you bet against yourself, you may find yourself constantly wondering “what if?” as you look back on a lifetime of regrets and missed opportunities.
When You Bet on Yourself
On the other hand, betting on yourself means taking a chance on your potential, your dreams, and your future. When you bet on yourself, you’re choosing to believe in your abilities, your vision, and what’s right about you.
It’s true, you won’t always win when you bet on yourself. But let’s be honest—every decision you make is a risk. Whether you bet for or against yourself, there are no guarantees. So why not take a risk in the direction of your dreams?
Betting on yourself gives you permission to pursue your purpose and live life on your terms. Even if things don’t turn out exactly as planned, you’ll find peace knowing that you gave it your all.
Conclusion
If you’ve never bet on yourself before, now’s the time to start. If you’ve been betting but haven’t seen the success you desire yet, keep betting. The best investment you can make is in yourself, and when the payoff comes, people may call it “luck,” but you’ll know better. It was the natural result of all those bets you placed.
