What do you want in 2020?

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” -Matthew 7:7-8

Asking for what you want is one of the most empowering things you can do. It takes courage, but when you take that step, you put yourself in control of your life, proactively steering it in the direction you desire. The results can be life-changing! When you ask for what you want, you open doors of opportunity and possibility that you may not have known were even there.

So, what do you want in 2020? Here are three tips to help you ask for—and get—what you truly want this year.

1. Make a List of What You Want

I once heard Steve Harvey give his audience a powerful challenge. He encouraged them to make a list of 300 things they wanted in their lives. He explained that while they might not get all 300, the act of writing down those desires would increase the likelihood of receiving at least 30. The simple act of defining your desires on paper can have an astonishing impact.

So, I’m challenging you to do something similar this upcoming year. Make a list of at least 20 things you want in 2020. These can be anything—from personal goals and professional achievements to lifestyle changes and new experiences.

Grab a piece of paper or open up your favorite device, find a quiet place where you can reflect, and start writing. Don’t limit yourself; this is the time to dream big! It could be something as tangible as buying a new home or as personal as finding inner peace. Whatever it is, put it on your list. You may be surprised by how many of those things start to manifest in your life once you’ve put them out into the universe.

2. Enthusiastically Expect to Receive

The power of expectation can’t be overstated. As Napoleon Hill once said, enthusiasm is a “state of mind” that propels action and drives results. When you’re enthusiastic about what you want, it changes the way you think, speak, and act. Your excitement becomes contagious, and it inspires those around you.

Expecting to receive what you’ve asked for is just as important as asking in the first place. When you believe that what you desire is on its way, you’re more likely to take the necessary steps to make it happen. Enthusiasm fuels persistence—it pushes you to keep going, even when things get tough, and it helps you stay focused on your goals.

Approach 2020 with enthusiasm! Whether you’re asking for a career promotion, a stronger relationship, or improved health, believe wholeheartedly that you will receive it. This positive expectation creates the mindset needed to turn dreams into reality.

3. Give to Receive, and Receive to Give

There’s an old saying: “It’s better to give than to receive.” While giving is undoubtedly a gift in itself, there is also incredible value in learning how to receive graciously. In fact, giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin, and both are equally important.

To give is to pour out of yourself into others, sharing your time, resources, and energy. But sometimes we focus so much on giving that we forget the other half of the equation—receiving. Learning how to receive allows us to experience the full cycle of abundance.

When you receive, you open yourself up to new possibilities and connections. It allows someone else to give, creating a beautiful exchange of energy. Life is about balance, and as much as you give, make sure you’re also open to receiving. Whether it’s love, support, wisdom, or even a helping hand, be ready to accept what others offer you with gratitude.

Remember: give with an open heart, and receive with gratitude. Both actions are vital to your growth and success.

What Do You Need the Courage to Ask for in 2020?

As you move into this new year, take a moment to reflect: What do you need courage to ask for in 2020? Whether it’s a professional milestone, a personal breakthrough, or a simple improvement in your everyday life, it all starts with the act of asking.

Dream big, take risks, and confidently ask for what you want this year. Then, expect it with enthusiasm, give freely, and receive graciously.
